Jumper will out on DVD and Blu-ray on June 10th. As a bonus, it looks like the Blu-ray version comes with a digital copy as well for portable devices. Foreshadowed in a previous post, Futurama: The Beat with a Million Backs finally has a release date - June 24th. The spoof Meet the Spartans is set for June 2nd.

Cloverfield: DVD Only?
Author: Bill
Looks like Cloverfield will be out on April 22nd on DVD. Since this is Paramount and they are still smarting from their Blu-ray -> HD-DVD -> screwed -> Blu-ray - I can only assume that they’re still trying to figure out the logistics. Hopefully Blu-ray will be announced soon. Any Blu-ray.
Untraceable, Charlie Wilson’s War, Rambo, Spiderwick

Some more releases: Untraceable is expected on May 13 on DVD and Blu-ray. A fun re-release - Wargames 25th Anniversary Edition on June 10th for DVD. Rambo 2008 is set for May 27th on DVD and Blu-ray. Spiderwick Chronicles on June 24 for DVD/Blu-ray. Charlie Wilsons War on DVD on April 22nd.
27 Dresses, Indy Chronicles
Author: Bill
More release information for you: 27 Dresses will be out on DVD and Blu-ray on April 29th. On the same day - the Indiana Jones Chronicles Volume 3: Years of Change. There’s lots of discussion lately about the 360 getting a Blu-ray drive. While great for consumers - this would be a horrible move for Sony unless they release the drive as locked to the current specification (2.0). If it can be upgraded whenever a new spec comes out - there’s no reason for 360 fans to flip to the dark side. We’ll see…
Last week Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails has released a new Nine Inch Nails album (not another remix album). It is a 36 track instrumental album called Ghosts I-IV clearly meant for some sort of higher relaxation (read: being high). Nine Inch Nails has never been one of my “Favorite” artists/groups although I have enjoyed their last couple of albums. The Hand That Feeds is a very good song. Nonetheless I saw that Trent had attempted the internet sales model with that Saul Williams dude and it didn’t do very well (in all fairness - it sucked IMHO). When Trent decided to do a NIN album it was a very different concept for me. This was a band with a very big following and fairly mainstream - meaning that it would be noticed by the powers that be if it was popular. I downloaded the 9 track tryout that was officially placed on Pirate Bay by NIN. It was not bad - definitely proving that that was not a remix album. That’s all I needed to know - I was going to pay for the album. I went online and initially thought I would buy the CD (with included download) for $10. However - shipping to Canada was $14 - not cool. That would have made it a $24 CD and I don’t pay that for any CD. So I went back an Paypal’d $5 for the download only. The process was clean - sign in to paypal (my login and password is… suckers), get my email confirming the purchase and another email with the one time only link. The link asks you which format you want (320K Mp3 - about 250MB, Flac Lossless - frickin huge, and Apple AAC - about 600MB). I got my Mp3’s and the download took about 2 minutes (no torrents, sorry). Great package overall: fully tagged files (each song has a different cover), the album cover, 40 page pdf book, bunch of wallpapers in widescreen and standard and web graphics for promoting the band and this album. I have now supported the business model which potentially is the best for the band and consumers: cheap albums available almost immediately on completion, bands that make every penny over and above the advertising/server costs, and a kick in the buttocks for the record companies need to rape every part of the process. Check and Mate. Thanks Trent. www.nin.com
New Releases
Author: Bill
A personal favorite, Futurama, is coming out with another full length movie it appears - The Beast With A Thousand Eyes… or something like that… it’s supposed to be out the end of June. I will keep ya’ll updated as I hear more. Aliens vs Predator Requiem Extreme Unrated Edition is due out April 15 on DVD and Blu-ray. As always - the movie is panned as BAD. But I didn’t see it in the theaters and I kind of liked the last one - seriously shallow in a Steven Segal sort of way ;-). The scream flick The Orphanage is expected on DVD and Blu-Ray on April 22. Once again I’ve ordered almost all of the new releases from Amazon.com for the next 3 weeks because, once again, buying from the States including shipping is STILL cheaper than buying off the shelf in Canada (or Amazon.ca for that matter). The dollar has been close to par now for some time - there’s no excuse. The Digital Bits has confirmed that Atonement will be Universal’s last release on HD-DVD on March 18. Interesting choice considering the name…
Movie Release Update
Author: Bill
It’s reported that Atonement will be out on March 18th on DVD and HD-DVD (wtf?). No blu-ray details. Also, there’s been very little fanfare about this but X-Files 2 movie is coming to theaters on July 25th. Not everyone will care - but I happened to like the series (and to a lesser extent, the first movie Fight The Future) and think that the right amount of time has passed before the sequel can be enjoyed.
